在很多人眼中，full 是满，充满等意思，此时通常指某个容器里面塞满或充满具体的东西，没有剩余空间了，常用于搭配 full of sth 中，如 the basket is full of beans，意为篮子装满了豆，但是这不意味着 full of beans 都是这个意思。
在英语中，我们经常用介词跟在形容词后面，如 afraid of，famous for 或 bored with 等，但是什么样的介词要跟什么样的形容词却没有规律可言，只能在学习过程中记住这些固定搭配。在实际用法中，full 后面常接介词 of。
现实中的 full 的用法远不止某物充满某物，它还有很多抽象的用法，主要有以下几种：
一、full 指某人想或谈太多的满，例如：
I has been full of my interview for the managers job recently.
最近我对经理职位的面试想太多。
二、full 指完整或详尽的满，例如：
A full refund is fully supported if there are any defects of the machine.
如果机器有任何缺陷，我们将全额退款。
三、full 指忙或活动有很多的满，例如：
The teachers work is too full to make time for hobbies.
老师的工作太忙，没有业余爱好的时间。
因此忙碌常可以用习语 have your hands full 来形象地表示，例如：
There is small wonder that he has his hands full with a lot on his plate.
事情那么多，难怪他忙得不可开交。
四、full 指丰满或圆鼓鼓的满，例如：
They specialize in clothes for women with a fuller figure.
他们专为体形较丰满的女士做衣服。
五、full 指圆的满，例如：
The moon will get fuller and fuller in coming days.
未来几天月亮会越来越圆。
因此，满月可以用 full moon 来表示。
六、full 指最大量或最高级的满，例如：
The train picked up speed and drove through the tunnel at full speed.
火车加速，全速驶过隧道。
七、full 指肚子饱的满，其实此时的 full 指的也是具体的满，那就是肚子装满了食物，例如：
You cant run on a full stomach.
饱餐之后不能跑步。
八、full 指大量或许多的满，例如：
I was full of admiration for her every time she received a bunch of flowers.
每次她收到一束花时，我都对她充满钦佩。
物极必反，当一个人用自己把自己充满，也就是 full of oneself 时，就是自满的表现了，意为自视甚高，只顾自己，自满等，例如：
He is very full of himself after being promoted.
升职后，他非常自视甚高。
由此可见，full of beans 可以指某物装满豆，主语通常是某个容器，然而当主语不是什么容器时，它的意思就完全不一样了，此时的 beans 也不是豆等意思。
Full of beans，还可以表示人精力充沛，相当于 have a lot of energy，例如：
We were young and full of beans.
我们年轻，精力旺盛。
Isobel is full of beans after shes back on her feet.
伊莎贝尔痊愈后，精神饱满。
